Reproductions of Local Canning Labels Available for Sale The images above are copies of labels that adorned cans of clams, mackerel and lobster packed locally during the late 1800s and early 1900s. There were six to eight canning factories on the east side as well as others in Lobster Cove, West Harbor, and Back Narrows. Ownership of those on the east side changed hands frequently, making it difficult to pin down what company was located where. The product changed from herring, to lobster, to clams, to mackerel, depending on the season and availability. These beautiful, full color labels are printed on acid free paper and are available exclusively from the Boothbay Region Historical Society. They vary slightly in size but are roughly 4x10 inches. All three can be purchased as a set for $25 or they may be purchased individually for $10 each.
